Youth for Innocence is launching its first ONLINE SPRING INTERNSHIP PROGRAM for high school and college students!
This internship will have one session, running from January 27 to April 19 for a total of 12 weeks.
During this internship, you’ll get the opportunity to immerse yourself in highly impactful work helping those wrongfully convicted. You will first take our brand new training course to get familiar with case file organization, cataloguing, and tracking down witnesses. You’ll take detailed notes, summarizing and investigating cases, as well as potentially helping investigations through interviewing witnesses and talking to experts in the field. You’ll also be able to connect to the larger community through contributing to our social media and our blog.
Throughout this internship, you’ll learn:
The legal process for criminal trials and the differences between how the system should work and how the system actually works
How different documents can help in a criminal proceeding
How to summarize and investigate a wrongful conviction case, from obtaining the transcripts to discovering new evidence
How student advocacy can change lives through exoneration
Interns must commit at least 10 hours per week to the internship. If you cannot commit 10 hours per week but still want to help, we highly encourage you to become a year-round volunteer. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, so we can validate community service hours if needed. In addition, we can write letters of recommendation or other documents to shed light on your work ethic and passion for volunteering.
No prior experience is needed, although if we receive more applicants than spots available, we will evaluate applicants based on their prior experience in law, as well as a variety of other factors. Spot availability depends on the number of cases being processed by Youth for Innocence.
If you are interested, please fill out the application form.
We can’t wait for you to join us!
