Youth for Innocence is excited to launch our second annual ONLINE SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM for high school and college students!

A flyer for Youth for Innocence's summer internship program 2025

This internship will have one session, running June 16 - August 10 for a total of 8 weeks.

During this internship, you’ll get the opportunity to immerse yourself in highly impactful work helping those wrongfully convicted. Throughout these 8 weeks, you’ll become familiar with case file organization, cataloguing, and tracking down witnesses. You’ll take detailed notes, summarizing and investigating cases, as well as aiding the discovery of new evidence through interviews with witnesses and experts in the field. You’ll also be able to connect to the larger community through contributing to our social media and our blog.

Throughout this internship, you’ll learn from many guest speakers about their work in the field, including:

  • The legal process for criminal trials and the workings of the system

  • How innocence lawyers file post-conviction motions and argue for innocence

  • The tools used by professional investigators to track down witnesses

  • Experts' research on eyewitness misidentification and false confessions

  • How to summarize and investigate a wrongful conviction case, from obtaining the transcripts to discovering new evidence

  • How student advocacy can change lives through exoneration

Interns must commit at least 20 hours per week to the internship. If you cannot commit 20 hours per week but still want to help, we highly encourage you to become a year-round volunteer. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, so we can validate community service hours if needed. In addition, we can write letters of recommendation or other documents to shed light on your work ethic and passion for volunteering.

No prior experience is needed, although if we receive more applicants than spots available, we will evaluate applicants based on their prior experience in law, as well as a variety of other factors. Spot availability depends on the number of cases being processed by Youth for Innocence.

If you are interested, please fill out the application form.

We can’t wait for you to join us!
